The cold spell we’re having in the Northern Hemisphere has put me in hibernation mode. The woodburner has been constantly on the go and it actually reached minus four here in the Arcachon Basin. I’m sure that must be almost unheard of. Even the beach was frosty and crunchy underfoot this morning and there are tiny light flakes of snow gently fluttering to the ground as I write.
Despite my willingness to believe that all can be solved with aromatherapy, I do know that you can’t combat the cold with essential oils. But it hasn’t stopped me trying. On top of the woodburner I have placed a little dish of water to which I have added a few drops of my favourite warming blend. Ginger and black pepper.These are two of my most cherished oils and I would not be without either one. Sitting here, the heat from the woodburner is gently dispersing the oils into the air. The combined fragrance is warming, spicy and slightly woody and it feels comforting and soothing while emanating a lovely gentle energy. Helping me to focus and get on with my various chores.Both spices were traditionally used to treat aches and pains associated with the cold and damp, as well as being used to combat catarrh, congestion, sinusitis, and common colds and chills. Their warming and drying actions are great for this time of year and they can be used as a gentle tonic to lift us from our sluggishness. To strengthen, encourage, motivate and help us to get moving when we feel a little stuck.
